St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Willie Mae Gedward, 85, who passed away on October 27, 2023 at her daughters residence.
A visitation will take place at the Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM on Saturday.
Rev. Marvin Gaysie S.V.D., will officiate at the funeral mass. Readers will be Kyndal Lindon(niece), Ashley Hypolite (niece), and Angelina Matthews (niece & Godchild).
Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum.
Willie Mae Gedward, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023, at the age of 85. She was born on June 5, 1938, in St. Martinville, LA, to her parents, Lovina and Thomas Kerlegan.
Willie Mae was married for 28 years to Lincoln Gedward Sr until his death.
Willie Mae was a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to her family and community. After obtaining her high school diploma, she became a dedicated homemaker, pouring her love and care into creating a warm and nurturing environment for her loved ones. Her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment served as a foundation for her family's happiness and well-being.
A woman of deep faith, Willie Mae found solace and comfort in her daily prayers. Her devotion to her family and those in need was evident in her daily recitation of the rosary, which she faithfully prayed every morning. This spiritual practice was a source of strength and guidance for Willie Mae.
Willie Mae loved to gather her family and friends to prepare her favorite Thanksgiving meal. The joy she found in cooking and sharing her culinary creations was unmatched. She had a special talent for bringing people together through the warmth and love found in her kitchen.
In her free time, Willie Mae enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and listening to music. These activities allowed her to express her vibrant spirit and brought immense joy to her life. However, nothing brought her more joy than spending quality time with her family. Whether it was sharing stories, laughter, or simply enjoying each other's company, Willie Mae cherished those precious moments.
She is survived by her son, Lincoln Joseph Gedward, Jr.; daughter, Lovina Gedward; grandchildren, Cornell Gedward, Brassetta Glude, Kaisha Gedward, Desmund Gedward, Dequacious Roman, and Alayah Gedward; great-grandchildren, Deandre Gedward, Kamryn Gedward, Kayden Gedward, Courtnee Gedward, Christian Gedward, Braelynn Freeman, Britynn Freeman, Willie Freeman IV, Ridge Morvant, Jr., Rylon Morvant, and Jakyren Mouton.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Lincoln Gedward, Sr.; parents Thomas and Lovina Kerlegan; brothers, Thomas Kerlegan, Jr., Clarence Kerlegan, Sr., Frank Kerlegan, Lawrence Kerlegan, and Albert Kerlegan; sisters, Lillie Mae Shaver, Lorenza Henry, Florence Roberts, and Alphonsine Mercier; son, Cornelius Gedward; Godchild, Francine Valsin.
Pallbearers will be Mc Bride Roberts, Mc Kenzie James, Edmond Joseph, Dennis Benoit, Malcolm Kerlegan and Arthur Gedward.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cornell Gedward, Desmund Gedward, Lincoln Gedward Jr., Clarence Kerlegan, Christian Gedward, Mark Quinney, Jamaal Parker, Devin Broussard, Rodney Lindon, Kevin Joseph, George Olivier, Jr., and Edward Joseph.
