New Iberia - Wonnie Marse Livingston, 81, born on April 7, 1943, left this world peacefully on January 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She was a beacon of light to all who had the privilege of knowing her, a beloved figure whose heart welcomed everyone with unmatched warmth.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Pellerin Funeral Home, with Rev. Don Bernard officiating. Entombment will be at a later date.
Visitation will be on Thursday, from 12 noon until 3:00 pm, at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 1:00 pm on Thursday.
A proud graduate of Mount Carmel, Wonnie cultivated lifelong friendships, enjoying monthly gatherings that kept the bond of her class strong. Her spirit was a testament to camaraderie, sharing joy and humor in every moment. With a personality that resonated with love, she found the lighter side of life, and her laughter filled the air around her, creating an atmosphere of pure happiness wherever she went. People were drawn to her not only because of her kindness but also because she loved them wholeheartedly, reflecting the true essence of friendship and family.
Throughout her career, Wonnie made her mark at Little Susan's Shop, where she captured the hearts of customers and co-workers alike with her engaging spirit. She cherished every moment of fitting uniforms on countless students. Her connection to Avery Island ran deep, as she worked in the gift shop for Tabasco and took on the role of tour guide. Her affection for the island and its community was so very special, particularly in her bond with Chris.
Wonnie's passions were many; she was a great cook whose meals brought families together and created lasting memories. Her hobbies included tapping along with Granny's Dance Group and relishing fishing trips. Perhaps one of her most treasured pastimes was sharing outings with her best friend, Jeannine Lecompte, as they savored beloved meals at their favorite restaurant, LaFonda.
Her infectious zest for life and her nurturing spirit garnered her immense love from those around her. She had an unparalleled ability to make anyone feel special, and her welcoming heart served as a safe haven for many.
Wonnie Marse Livingston may have departed from this earth, but her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to experience her boundless love. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will forever endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
Survivors include her children, Kim Livingston Laliberte (Dwayne) of Broussard, Beth Livingston (Ray Boudreaux of New Iberia, Marse Livingston of New Iberia, and Mary Claire Livingston of New Iberia; grandchildren, Kristyn Dressel Freyou (Kaleb), and Coty Laliberte; great grandchildren, Wren Kathryn Freyou, baby Freyou due in June, Bailey Laliberte, and Colt Laliberte.
Wonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert “Buck” Marse and Bettye Verdine Marse.
The family would like to give special thanks to Amanda, for opening her home, during Wonnie’s last days. She was always there around the clock, caring for her and helping with anything.
